Mirenas and Long Acting Contraception
There are many options for long acting reversible contraception that provides extremely reliable and safe pregnancy prevention for several years, and can be removed restoring fertility whenever you choose
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
Mirena, Kyleena and Copper IUDs
We now have 2 providers who insert IUDs on-site (Dr Vanessa Sugito and Dr Kathleen Wild)
IUD insertion involves:
- An initial consultation to discuss the right IUD option for you
- An insertion appointment
- A follow up visit to make sure things are going well
IUD insertion does have a higher upfront cost as a contraceptive and/or menstrual bleeding management option but fortunately provides many years of coverage.
We offer both hormonal and non-hormonal (copper) IUD options*
*if you are thinking of the copper IUD it is very important to come in and discuss this with our doctors first. The copper IUD is not suitable for some people (such as those with heavy menstrual bleeding)
Other contraception services
Implanon, Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill, Progesterone Only Pill and more
All GPs working from the centre are happy to provide contraceptive advice and consultations. Dr Michelle, Dr Vim, Dr Susan, Dr Elly, Dr Vanessa and Dr Kathleen all have a special interest in womens and hormonal health and are also trained in contraceptive implant (implanon) insertion.
If a procedure for a long acting contraceptive worries you there are many other contraception and cycle control options available.
Even if you’ve been told you can’t take the traditional pill previously (due to issues such as migraines) there are new options for progesterone only pills on the market which may be more suitable,
General contraception and menstrual management consultations are avaliable via both face to face and telehealth.
Implanon insertions will require a consultation followed by a second appointment for insertion.
